While running across the cold, frosty river trying to get home, I couldn’t even think. It was about 2:00 in the morning, and I had just received a call saying that my mom was in the hospital. I was very concerned when the doctor said her heart was failing, and she could possibly die today. My car wasn’t starting up, and I didn’t want to wait for a friend to come and pick me up. Although the hospital was about 2 miles away, I was determined to run to see my mother before her death.
I ran, and ran past McDonalds, Subway, Target, and even my favorite Ice Cream shop. Nothing was getting in my way, only the cold, strong, and very harsh wind flying through my hair. Just then I was stopped by an old man, and a very nosy one at that.
"Are you crazy, its four o’clock in the morning.” He said.
I wasn’t even paying any attention to him, focused on my target the Shadow Hill Hospital to see my mother. After it seemed like I was running for forever I arrived at the hospital. Right in the doorway my dad was standing there to greet me, along with my brother Michael and his wife Caitlyn. They told me that my mom was going to die any minute soon and that I was only allowed to go see her for a few minutes.
So I stepped into the dark, glum, and very boring hospital room and say my mother laying on the bed. She mumbled a few quick words to me and I found them very hard to make out. One thing I did understand was when she said “You only live once.” I kissed her on her forehead, told her I loved her, then walked silently out of the room. Why must she go? The mother I loved so much, the one who raised me, and one of my best friends.
Shortly after I left my mom passed away, and I got right onto organizing the perfect funeral to honor her. Still throughout my life some of my mother’s last words “You only live once” were stuck in my head. I began living every day to the fullest, taking risks, having fun, and just relaxing here and there. Because we do only live once, and when you’re in the hospital bed about to pass away, there should be no regrets about thing you wish you should have done, but joy about what you loved you did.

Mars Short Story
I had a long day at work, attempting to figure out if there really was life on mars, my eyes were barley open, anytime soon I was sure to be asleep. You see my job wasn’t easy, I woke up every day around 7 . Spent about 8 long hours of work, plus the 1 hour commute home. Being a single parent, I then had to rush home, get my 4 kids off of the bus, help with their homework, and cook a healthy dinner.
My job was at the P.L.O.(Planet Life Organization). Every Monday through Saturday, I was stuck there until about 3:00 pm, then went home to get my kids. While at work I spent most of my time either arguing with workers, or looking at recent data. One of the most interesting planets to me was Mars. Growing up people often talked about Mars, and wondered if it was a planet that could someday have the potential of life. Most days I spent in front of the computer, tracing a live camera on one of the satellites orbiting around Mars. Usually not much was going on, the occasional blur would come across the camera though. The most boring days were days when all of this was going on.
“Michelleeeee, theres nothing to do in this place.” Said one worker.
“Seriously, this is the most boring job in the whole wide world.” Said another
“Agreed, why don’t we just leave, no one will even notice we are gone.” Said another
You wouldn’t think they were actually serious when they said these things, but that was not the case. At least 10 days out of every month, they went out. Sometimes it was bowling for a few hours, other times a walk in the park. Usually they got lucky, and when the boss stopped in they were somehow always working. I would never go with, but was always invited. It was hard turning them down, but I knew the fun for a couple of hours wouldn’t beat the consequences if I got caught.
Today was just another day, off they all went to the local bakery. To gab over warm vanilla cappuccinos, and steaming hot chocolate. Little did they know that this was one of their last days of work. The boss was furious when he saw all of the workers, but me, missing.
“Where are the others, I hired them for a reason, we have work that needs to be done” he said.
“They went out to got some food, at the bakery.”
“How long have they been gone?”
“All day, I am just here working.” I said
“Praise you, I’m glad to have at least on employee who cares about this place.”
The next day I went into work, and found it empty. I sat down at my desk, and out came my boss.
“The others are gone Michelle, looks like we need to put up signs, and an add in the newspaper.”
This news was unusually good to me, I was happy that we could finally get some people working here, that would actually work. A week after we held interviews and managed to find some potential workers. We found a 30 year-old male named Tucker, who had past experience, and a good work ethic. That night he was hired, and with him he brought some of his friends, Leona, Karen, Samuel, Joshua, and Drake. Not one of them was anything less than perfect, we hired them all.
Finally I was excited to get back to work again. With people who actually respected, and cared for our company.

Weekend.
Over this weekend there wasnt much to do. Valentines day was on sunday, making it more of a horrible weekend. You always wonder why cupid, a little baby with wings represents love. That would be interesting to learn more about.
Anyway, my weekend consisted of nothing. On saturday I stayed in my pajamas and took care of my sick family. Sunday I went to Wal-Mart, and bought some last minute valentines candy. This was most of the things I did during the weekend.

Laptops at Home :)
Today we got to bring our laptops home after school let out. At first it was hard, and I was not sure about how to acess my files. Then I found out, and all of the problems I had are gone. Overall, laptops at home are a wonderful idea.

Laptops 24/7
Taking laptops home every day after school is an excellent idea. This would give students a more efficient way of doing homework, which we get lots of in eighth grade. Using flash drives is something we could do instead of using laptops. This may work for some students, but for others without a computer at home, or without the same computer programs, it is a struggle. Allowing us to take laptops home would resolve all of these issues.
